Anti-inflammatory lifestyle supports healthy ageing and living longer at our most optimum.

This TER-RE-SET Retreat is where medical science meets and merges with Yoga practice.

JEFFREY I. KURLAND M.D., PhD.

On June 5th we’ll be honoured to have with us from Los Angeles, California, Dr. Jeffrey I. Kurland, a prominent physician with board certification specialising in Internal Medicine and Hematology-Oncology and a distinguished research scientist in the areas of stem cell regulation and molecular control of inflammation and ageing.

The session:

Dr. Kurland will speak to us about the scientific basis for maintaining an anti-inflammatory lifestyle to reduce development of chronic medical conditions and prolong healthy ageing.  He will explain how key small molecules found in the food supply and through dietary supplementation can have profound effects on controlling the extent of inflammation, either effectively limiting the body’s normal inflammatory response or conversely accelerating inflammation leading to potentially deadly outcomes such as occurs in some individuals with SARS-Cov-2 who have been infected with the Covid-19, a novel coronavirus.

Dr. Kurland will also address why certain individuals who become infected with Covid-19 ultimately go on to develop life-threatening multi-organ failure and how this dire outcome is related, not to the presence of the virus, but to surges in pro-inflammatory regulatory molecules, particularly  but not exclusively in those patients with preexistent chronic inflammatory conditions.

Dr. Kurland will also discuss the scientific basis and medical benefits of the ketogenic diet and explain how it potentially prevents an accelerated inflammatory state by limiting production of key pro-inflammatory molecules secreted by particular immune system cells.

Dr. Kurland will also discuss the importance of the body’s intestinal bacterial flora (the “Microbiome”) in controlling the body’s overall state of inflammation, not that which occurs in the gut itself, but also in multiple organs, including the brain.  This so-called gut-body and gut-brain connection is especially significant when considered in the context of Yoga and mindfulness practices, insofar as smart eating especially when performed in concert with healthful rhythmic bodily movements and maintenance of calming states of mindfulness, not only  can prevent age-related muscle loss and joint inflammation and reduce stress-related brain inflammation, but potentially eliminate age-related development of chronic inflammatory medical conditions that significantly shorten our lifespans.

I am honoured to share this space with Dr. Kurland and absorb some of his knowledge and wisdom, especially in these times we find ourselves in. As Yoga is a science and a medicine in itself, this retreat will teach you and inspire you to embrace and adapt the yoga lifestyle even more.

Traditionally in India long ago Science and spiritual teachings were not separate; the Saints were Scientists and the Scientists were Saints.  It’s the bringing of the two as one that is the change for complete health and wellness, mind body and soul.

While Dr. Kurland can teach us how to keep our immune systems strong while reducing inflammatory conditions and living safely, we can absorb the teachings of Asana and pranayama and other relevant healing theraputic yogic practices including some sacred mantra for mental hygiene to help rejuvenate and support the body’s overall state of healthfulness.
